Getting a ME Super serviced?

The last time I used my ME Super I was sure the meter was out. That was a decade ago! I'd like to use the camera again.

So I reckon I should get it serviced. But what needs doing? The meter re-calibrating? The lubricants refreshed?

And does anyone know of a good place to get this done in London without breaking the bank...?

Cheers!

I'd have no hesitation in recommending Harrow Technical - proven track record and used by many of us on this forum. Robin's repaired my original LX and *ist (both with shutter curtain problems) and cleaned 2 lenses infected with fungus.

Price listed for an MES is £56.50 - but as a PU member, there is a discount on this. And he's London based - got space at Pentax House, South Harrow. So think meets the criteria listed.

Replacement batteries can be found quite easily - E-bay's a good starting point.

Harrow Technical or Asahi Photo, both London based, are my preferred repairers. Usually, if one can't fix it or get spare parts, the other one can.

I can vouch for Asahi photo too. They fixed a few issues on my SFXn a few years back and turned it round very quickly for very reasonable money.

Fantastic!

Asahi quotes £65, while Harrow quote £56.50. The guy in Harrow says I get a 15% discount if I'm a member of the Pentax Users' Club. Does that involve more than just registering here...?

Actually I have two ME Supers - so any savings are doubled.

The second is my daughter's - there's a real revival of interest among teens in these 'retro' cameras!

Just a thought.

Try running a Film through the camera and looking at the results.

Modern ISO400 film isn't too fussy if the metering is slightly out, and if you can live with it it'll save you £50+.

K110+DA40, K200+DA35, K3 and a bag of lenses, bodies and other bits.

Mustn't forget the Zenits, or folders, or...

PPG entries.

I just sent two cameras to Robin for repair/service. I think these are the 5th and 6th cameras I have sent him which seems a good recommendation to me!

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

And possibly waste a whole roll..? Plus processing? And the effort? No no no.

Of course I could always dig out my trusty Weston V to check readings! Which I'll probably do at first anyway.

Fact is, I'm sure the lubricants could do with refreshing. And I want to experiment with HDR by scanning the neg at different lights to capture what's in the heel and toe of the curve, in which case all exposures need to be spot on.
