Geranium.
I'm trying hard to learn how to use this lens.

It's nice and sharp.
I think I would try F5.6 and iso200 to make the background less busy. 320th is pretty safe.
Then wait till evening or a slightly overcast day to help with the contrast.

Thanks Darkmunk- I will take that on board. I am a bit tentative about opening up the lens, but, nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Cheers, Rob

If this is the 'M' 75-150 f4.0 then don't worry at all about opening up. It performs very consistently right through to maximum aperture. I'm not going to post pictures here (its about your picture) but I've recently shot some fairly similar images with the same lens, and they were shot at f4.5. Have a look on the Your Photos thread .... HEATHFIELD - Colour in the Countryside link - photos 2 & 3 were taken with this lovely old zoom.

It is indeed the F4 young sir- I think your 'thumbs up' for it, and davidstorm's, were the reason I went for it. Love using it. I have a 135mm 3.5 as well, and that is a joy. Very steep learning curve but so well worth it. For £25 it really is top value.

Cheers, Rob

Edit- enjoyed your 'Heathfield' sets BTW

Thanks Rob. I think the biggest challenge I have with this lens is the fact that there a really 2 extra manual processes going on to tax the brain ... focussing of course, which can be quite delicate on this zoom (and of course can slip a bit), then you've got to set the aperture ring (which you can't see with the camera at your face), and of course the green button to meter (and remembering to keep doing it when you've moved around .... have I summed it all up near enough ? ) Makes going back to an autofocus DA lens really quite boring!

Also I find I keep forgetting what aperture it is set on, so have to keep moving the camera down to check. It all makes for a fun action packed photography session. Looking forward to seeing more of your efforts.

So very true McGreg. AF is so boring BUT it is nice to know what f stop you have actually used when sorting through the days shots. I really think a pen and paper is the only way.
I was watching the golf on the TV and wondering, as they were marking their cards, how similar it is in a strange sort of way. Club size and distance etc. A little record book would be quite useful.
I will post some more over the next few days but it is a bit hit and miss at the moment.

Have fun,
Rob

Edit. from f4 to f16 is 7 clicks, f4 to f8 is three, so I zero back then count. And you forgot the accidental zooming while you are focussing- makes me feel quite seasick
