You're right of course, it is useful to have at least an approximate location. Some members give the detail, some don't, but it is optional so we'll never have 100%

In particular advice about "where can I buy a........" or "who can repair a........" can only really be provided if location is known.
There was a particularly good example of someone who registered and asked for advice on buying furniture online
John R. (I assume) quickly deleted the post but not before Clarky had provided a 'tongue in cheek' reply directing the person how to find a furniture shop in Sydney
This is of course not a general purpose forum, but very often the advice given on photographic matters is tempered by knowing approximately where someone lives.
