As for the points raised by beakynet I'm sure some ingeneus person could develop a universal adaptor that would allow cameras to be attached to any storage device via a short cable and an assortment of connectors to fit into the cameras card slot.

In the park where I work part time in the summer there is a pavillion where they have dances and shows. Sometimes I'm asked to do the photography for the event to sell photos. They used to use a big Nikon with a WiFi radio unit which fitted into the CF slot and had an ariel fitted to send the signal to the computer so the punters could see their photos on a big screen before buying. Now with a new camera they use a WiFi card to send the signal.As Alan says someone will develop something along these lines which is universal/interchangeable to fit all camera types. OR you carry the memory seperatly and the camera doesn't need a card it just sends the photo signal straight to the memory/downloader in your pocket.

When I bought my first camera it used 120 black & white roll film (colour was available, I couldn't afford it).
Then I had 35mm and eventally colour film and the only item that needed a battery was the Weston meter that came with it.

So far computers were a room full of valves and technicians in white coats. I built my first computer and it used 5-1/4 discs that stored just 350K (or was it 170K)

Now we have cameras which rely on both batteries and computers which have changed beyond all optimistic estimates of just 10 years ago and continue to do so.

However, not everything is backward compatable (there are apparently only 2 working readers,world wide, for the 12" millenium doomesday book discs)

JR said it another thread he probably wouldn't scan his slides onto CD, or words to that effect.

Then there's the ever present natural disasters which plague the parts of the world that produce our electronic gadgets and that's even excluding the "political" situation that exists twixt some of the neighbouring countries

So in 30 years time who knows what technology will throw up. It will be just as exciting, no doubt, as the last 30 years and hopefully will cost, by comparison, a mere fraction of whar we spend today
