Interesting comments re the 645DII also. Here's the helpful 'synopsis' posted by Ogl on the other forum:

Quote:
1. FF will be next year. Not later than Photokina 2014. Maybe, on spring or summer, 2014.
2. New DFA lenses will be. New 2.8 zooms will be.
3. New Limited Zoom will be.
4. New WR lenses will be.
5. K-01 is failed because of design. Mirrorless cameras from Ricoh will be.
6. New 645D will be later. It will be different from 645D. It was plans to launch 645DII this year, but the situation is changed.
7. SMC DA LIMITED are discontinued.

The next camera will be a 6x6 TLR DIGITAL and it's not
a rumour it's actually shown 16secs into this official video

Made for street photography in all conditions.... built in
snow plough and a portable 1:1 scale model Red GPO Phone
Box to plonk anywhere you want in the street so that you
won't be spotted

The purchase of Pentax is shown at 4min 30sec.

I'm impressed with the man who can light up bulbs
with his fingers at 4min 38sec.

the new retro-Pentax LX-D will adopt a whole new shorter flange A-mount (A for Ace, after K and Q), which will allow two adapters for legacy K mount lens - one for manual focus with metering etc, and a more expensive motorised adapter for auto focussing as well.
Hmmm.

A mount makes me think of those new Sony Alpha mirrorless cameras. Suppose Ricoh decided to make their cameras compatible with Sony's FF NEX lenses... and therefore their lenses, and lens adapters, compatible with Sony's. By sharing the mount, Sony would benefit from Pentax's lens range including the FA ltds (via a dedicated adapter), and Pentax would benefit from a bigger market for their lenses/adapters.

Camera companies really make their money from lenses, so, sadly I would think any new Pentax 'retro' interchangeable camera would come with a new mount for that reason alone, nevermind any technical difficulties. What a loss leader it would be if they brought out such a camera and then everyone just went onto ebay to buy old primes for it?

But you can do that with the K3. Or you could buy new lenses but not made by Pentax. I think it would give the FA Ltds a raison d'etre and they are asking a few bob for them these days. They could leave the mount crippled to discourage manuals.

If they go down the adapter route though, that still leaves the door open for new, reduced distance lenses for an even more compact system, which many people desire, while maintaining decent compatibility with the older FA ltds (no crippling please!)

Make the lenses and FA adapters compatible with Sony NEX full frame, and they could start selling lenses and adapters to NEX users. If you want to build in a bit of deliberate crippling, do it there, so when they're hooked on the Pentax lenses, they eventually decide to switch to a Ricoh-Pentax made body too.

The Future and Who Should Upgrade
Pentax has informed us that future plans include the introduction of a high-end APS-C DSLR as well as a full-frame DSLR. At this point, it's not a question of whether or not these cameras will come, but rather when. For those who do not want to wait a year or more for these advanced cameras and are currently using the K-5, it makes sense to upgrade to the the K-5 IIs. Similarly, those using other Pentax cameras will greatly benefit from the upgrades in the K-5 compared to older bodies such as the K-x or K10D, but may prefer to go for the cheaper K-5 rather than the K-5 II.
We now have the high end APSC and await the FF

I hope it is true, that a FF Pentax SLR is coming.
I already have $2000.- in coins collected for this occasion.

However, I don't believe that Pentax will change the mount. Maybe another contact.
Why didn't Pentax change it with the K&, 5 or 3 models.

They release new lenses all the time. I am sure many users will by the latest lenses anyway. Plus all the DA lenses for APS-C can be replaced with new FF capable lenses.

What interests me most, are the comments when a FF is released from the Die Hard APS-c supporters. EG: To bulky, to many pixels, to much noise, need to buy new tele lenses etc. Lets see.
As soon as Pentax releases a FF, I'll buy it. Forget the K3.

At least my 50mm lens will be a 50mm lens once again.

I sometimes wonder if anyone takes any photographs, apart from test charts!

There's no need for a full frame mount because the k mount is already a full frame mount. Always has been.

I doubt whether I would be buying one because of cost, but never say never.

I do think 'full frame' has a now artificial mythicalness about it. Originally technology wise it was difficult to manufacture a sensor the same physical size as the 35mm film format. We are leaps and bounds ahead of where we were initially now, so it should no longer be so unobtainable.

I really like that comment about older lens being back to what they should be. That's the huge benefit to me rather than the increased resolution jump it used to offer initially. The K3 is now higher resolution than one of say Sony's latest full frame offerings.
