I just wish it would be announced sooner rather than later, yes it would be nice to have but then there will be glut of nice low use k3s available

I still can't see them bringing out a FF.
The K-3 and K30 are both outselling the Nikon D610 and D800
in Japan at present....... Roll on the K-2 APS-C
The K-30 is actually in the TOP 10 at 7 and rising.
I've never seen Pentax doing so well

Well, it would be pretty disappointing if they weren't. Without more information, it's impossible to know what that may mean in terms of revenue/profit for the respective companies.

Revenue/profit is difficult at the moment, the camera business is suffering big time with a lot of reports of declining sales in general.
I'm sure a lot of Nikon and Canon users are eyeing Pentax' APSC line-up and growing lens choices with some envy. Pentax has a real opportunity to become a leading player in that sector.
Question is, which is the right horse to back? It's very difficult to predict where the market growth will come from. We are seeing some pretty nifty squeezing of sensors into bodies that don't really seem large enough to accommodate them. Full frame cameras are coming down in price and size and that risks squeezing the APS-C market. So if you concentrate on smaller sensors and systems to go with them then you are gambling that you won't be out-innovated. Look at the 4/3rds system. Olympus backed that one big time and it's not going well.
These are highly challenging times for the camera industry. There is one common factor that is shared by technology companies, sooner or later they go bust.
I think things could look very unfamiliar in ten years time, maybe a lot sooner. Ricoh haven't really yet laid their cards on the table and it will be interesting to see what they want their camera division to be.

I'm with you on this one Algi. I still can't see them bringing out a FF.
There is no point. FF is a total waste of time.
Best regards

It will have to compete with the D610 price-wise, so if they want to keep selling K-3s, they may need to reduce its price.

I've seen the "crippled mount" comment several times but I do not know to what problem with the current mount it refers. Could someone edumacate me, please? Thanks.
The only reason for the existence of this mount variation is cost cutting. This was achieved by leaving out the stop-down coupler of the body mount and the aperture ring of the lens mount. With this move Pentax sacrificed one of its strongest advantages, the unrivaled K-mount compatibility.
The combination of a "crippled" KAF body with any lens functions perfectly if the following two conditions are met:
The lens that is used has an aperture ring with an "A" setting,
The "A" setting is engaged.

The body supports P ot Tv operation,
One of the above settings is selected.
John K

The camera phone and particularly the iphone has been the disruptive technology photography has needed. What's needed now is a dslr that builds in a phone OS similar to the Samsung galaxy camera. Why its so difficult to get images from an slr in 2013 to social networking sites i don't know.
i welcome the day i can insert a sim card into a dslr preferably an ff Pentax body...

Don't know cabstar, nice to have sure but for me I'd rather camera companies concentrated on photography (be it optics, hardware or software) rather than trying to be something else. I'd rather that cameras had inbuilt focus stacking, inbuilt electronic filters ie inbuilt ND110 and inbuilt reverse ND grads but also had some sort of Bluetooth button that let you ping them onto your phone easily. Err and FF and affordable too whilst we're at it
... just another middle-aged guy with a hobby. I have an extreme macro learning site at extreme-macro.co.uk - Pentax-centric, your feedback and comments would be appreciated!

Yeah - but it or something similar is going to happen. Its already a speedy business getting photos from the touchline to the picture editor at football matches. There are opportunities to make it even faster though. And he who delivers the shot first picks up the cash

Has anyone tried out the new HD Limited lenses to see if they are actually full frame? If they were, then maybe HD is the designation for full frame lenses as well as a new coating technology.
There's a mischievous thought.
