Dont be dissapointed TT, night photography isn't something you can do without a lot of trial and error. Just study what you have and try to determine where you went wrong. with this one I'll give you a hint, the real picture is the central square of this one, just that blue and its reflection

A bit of camera shake here TT - even using a support you have to be careful to not knock the camera in the slightest. (Use the self timer). I presume you were using a tripod because of the two tripods in shot.
On the +ve side, the exposure is very good and brings out the coloured reflections

Actually I'm really annoyed with myself - these looked far better in the camera than they do now . All have been imported to Aperture 3.1 - so hopefully I can make some of them more 'presentable'

+1 to fastspider's comments, just learn from these and move on
I'm not sure these are salvageable in Aperture or anything else, there's just too much camera shake especially in the first two, just chalk it up to a learning experience
When you review your shots on the LCD do you zoom in? I try and make a habit of zooming in to 14x at least once with each new subject (14x is close to a 1:1 crop on your LCD), I find that helps making sure I have at least one in-focus shake-free image

Oh well - that's 52 pics for the bin I won't be able to have another go at them as it's not the sort of area I want to be in alone at night - not with that kit anyway.

Apologies if I am stating the obvious, but did you turn the shake reduction off? It can play havoc with long exposures if left on. Not sure if the Kx has horizon correction, but on the K7 i supect this can wreck long exposures too. Also, did you use the timer with mirror lock-up?

If I am right these pics were taken from the City Inn's terrace which, IIRC, is a wooden deck so prone to movement when anyone walks nearby.
Your tripod is bit lightweight TBH so I'd recommend tying your camera bag to the centre column if you can for added stability. Were you using a remote release?

Some were from there but near their car park - but others were nearer the other bridge so we were looking down. All were on hard standing not decking . My bag was hooked on at the bottom , but as I was only using one lens it was also pretty light .
I did wonder about trying it with the remote - and probably will do so if I get a chance to try night stuff again [ or anything else on a tripod ]
I'll try and cheer myself up today with some holly berries, which I spotted the other day nearby.

I had understood that shake reduction came off automatically if you used a tripod - so no I didn't take it off. As for timer and mirror lock up - that's waaaaay over my head at this stage - sorry

I had this fantastic shot of the inner harbour at Cherbourg (at night). It was my first trip out after getting the K200.
The fantastic shot lasted until I got home and put it on the big screen. Then it became a binned shot.
Now I always check each shot on the monitor using the Zoom feature as a quick check on "Have I Done It Wrong?"

We all know the feeling of the monitor lying to us .
Do try the timer function. It is very easy to use - it means the shutter opens 2 secs after you press the release, so things are a bit steadier. I use it even with the remote.
SR only switches off automatically with the remote or timer functions. It has no way of knowing you are using a tripod otherwise.
Don't be too despondant. We've all been there.
You tried, and I hope you enjoyed trying.
Maybe you could make a date with Ken to try again?

I did not know that, I've always switched SR of manually. As they say, never to old to learn.
