From the Fashion shoot part of a shoot on Dartmoor last Friday,

We were plagued by passers by, Walkers / Dog Walkers etc including 2 teams of Royal Navy cadets on a 20 mile walk across the moors, so had to cover up !!

All 645z with FA 45 - 85 F4.5

Interesting and unquestionable quality. I do think they are loosing out by being displayed in such a small format on this website. Particularly like the light on the last one and the composition and pose of the first one

If you have a Flickr or similar account link directly to a larger picture that you post on there.

yes those damn dog-walkers and cadets get everywhere ! Seriously though I think the natural light was not doing you any favours on the red shots. The are nice images , reminding me of a Kate Bush style album cover, but appear a little flat. The white set I like , but perhaps a tad underexposed.

I like your style a lot.

Nice shots Chris though in my opinion they cry out for some artificial lighting to the subject... Nice to see some of our Pentax users attempting something a little more different...

Thanks to both Stub and Pshlute for your comments,

I did take some portable lighting with me, we left it in the car, prob another 10kg with stands, tbh just as well as we ended up walking 5 miles as it was, and the camera bag with lenses, which I used every one on the shoot weights 20kg.

I had deliberately under-exposed the White dress shots a tad, to maintain the lovely lace detail in the dress and the top combined with and against the light-ish blue sky, there had to be a compromise.

I bet the cadets thought they were hallucinating! I particularly like the bracken colour in the second shot and would have been tempted to ask the model to lie in it, but such thoughts are easy in hindsight. Difficult to try lighting techniques and different shooting angles when in a group, but it must have been a very useful experience. Maybe gives you the confidence to try a solo shoot next.

Thanks RobL,

I was tempted to ask the Cadet leader if he'd let his Squaddies pose with Freya, but he didn't look the sort to mess with !! The bracken on the second shot was on quite a steep downward slope to a small stream so didn't try that. This was a solo shoot out on Dartmoor, many angles were used and I'll upload different images over the coming days / weeks.

I could have done with an assistant to help with the kit

I fully echo the sentiment about Pentax people getting out and trying "different" things! Really good to see something creative like this....

I do admit the style does not totally appeal personally (I find the whole rocks, moor, woman and fashion combo a bit too much of a juxtaposition!), but the photos are nicely done, and I applaud the exposure control.

The first two are great in all these respects with the surrounds really supporting the model and good even light with some punchy contrast. Personally I'd cool the colour balance as I find it a bit muddy and warm looking.

Looking forward to seeing some more from this shoot! ..... Could you take her to Canary Wharf next time .....?

Yes the highlights are held with the white dress, and the lighting spotlights her in those ones ... But the surrounds are a bit dull, so if possible I'd try and mask off the subject and raise the midtones around her a bit .... Should add a bit of sparkle which would be good I think.

Thanks Nigel,

I used the bridge walls to lead into the lass, but I see your point, I will lighten the shadows on a few and see how they look.

Cos of fairly constant interruptions earlier in the day we had to switch from an art nude to a clothed shoot and came across these 2 locations through chance and a fair bit of walking and tried to make the best of them with what we had.
