A shot of one of my daughters taken on my K5 II with the DA*50-135mm.

Do you prefer colour:

or black and white?

Comments/criticisms welcomed. I've not shared any of my images anywhere for a long time due to strict self-censorship, but after reading some recent threads on the forum I've decided to start sharing a bit more (with the selfish aim of improving of course ).

Thanks for looking,

Great picture. Using the chair as a frame has really worked and her expression leaves you guessing how she's feeling at that moment.

I like both (can I say that?)

Steve

Sometimes I'm serious and sometimes not, but I consider sarcasm an artform. Which is it today?

I prefer the colour ( slightly ).

I would darken the chair bokeh and her top by around a 1/2 stop though so the eye is drawn more to the face

Thanks, that makes sense. I think that LR5 has quite a good local adjustment feature that could do this but I've never used it in anger (still learning Lightroom).

Colour for me I'm afraid, leave black & white for the oldies, treasure every nuance of colour,

yes that's exactly what I'd use. Dial in a negative exposure, you could add some negative clarity as well. All helps with the depth.

Dial in a feather of about 60 and paint on where required. You can always erase areas and adjust settings post brushing too.

I use the LR Local adjustment brush extensively. I'd hate to be without it. It's THE tool for making pics pop :thumb:

The colour one for me, it has so much vibrancy and life to it. The image works well and there's good advice here for improving it still more.

Nice - thanks. Not the only things you changed, I see

I find the way the hair in the bottom right of the image "pops" from the bokeh of the chair is a bit odd but I left it as I couldn't work out what to do about it.

I'd leave it. it only gets annoying if you concentrate on it
