The second to last shot is the classic kingfisher shot of course and well done for catching it. Are these straight from the camera at high ISO or have you applied noise reduction when post processing?

Most were at ISO 1600 and have had a bit of noise reduction and sharpening in LR3The second to last shot is the classic kingfisher shot of course and well done for catching it. Are these straight from the camera at high ISO or have you applied noise reduction when post processing?

What's the lens and shutter speed? Moments are very good, just keep pushing when you reach your goal for IQ
Maybe NR is a lot and thus the IQ degraded.
Good job!
Btw i think it's called Common Kingfisher, not classic
Cheers

Lens was a Sigma 150-500 - hand held (it was impossible to use the tripod), shutter speed 1/500 f/6.3. NR use was minimal - IQ would have been much improved if he would have just come 5-10 feet nearer, he really was on the limits for me distance wise

You are much too modest, Fritz.
These are excellent shots, not only because the light is quite superb, but also because it's not just one shot but a series, including, as Snootchies says, the classic shot with the fish in the beak - which is then followed by the poor little beastie disappearing like a coffin at a cremation.
Super.

A very good effort and a good set. As you say, now you know where he lives, your task is set!
Good colour and bokeh throughout.
Best regards

It's a lovely series and isn't it thrilling when you find them .... that electric bolt of blue that you know instantly is the CKF ?
