Fortnightly competition #6 Comments

I've got a couple that would fit in with Wednesday to Wednesday time frame, I'll enter one and leave it to the judge !

The comp looks a little bare, so it will at least make up the numbers

Tonight I am hoping the get the one I am after. Now if the pastor of our local Church could cooperate

Well......,he wasn't around and of course the Church wasn't flooded in light. They do that,only in the weekends. So I had to go for plan B.
A modern piece of architecture at a industrial site near my home town.
I had to conquer a frozen channel, pitch black visibility and not knowing if the ice would hold. There was no other way in getting that view point.

So you must be in the Farnham area, where houses are still worth quite a few Pentax lenses :

Farnham is is a very nice place but the county boarder has a kink here and we are on the other side of Aldershot on the edge of the Ash ranges.

Personally I never got it together for this competition. No idea why not and I hope it isn't a trend. the subject was suitably open so I can't understand why I couldn't get anything worthwhile for it.

The one idea I had I tried too late and all the lights I wanted at the local funfair were turned off! I think it's because it was too cold to operate the rides.

Ho hum I'll be curious to see the judging that's for sure.

Sounds like some kind of "writers block", you are suffering from.
Usually surrendering to a decent amount of LBA cures that, you know

Thanks for that sobering thought! No, I'm confident that LBA won't do the trick. I'm actually having lots of fun with flash at the moment and awaiting a slave device so I can fire two or possibly three guns at the same time.

If I wasn't so shy and something of a hermit I'd love to do some portraits but I am and I am so I doubt that's an idea with legs.

It doesn't matter much anyway as I have so much to learn about technique that I can keep myself going for ages.

BTW...., I am in the same boat as you, regarding portraits. I love them to see, and admire the people who do this kind of work. ( John and Don to name just two) But the idea of doing it myself, gives me the creeps.

On other forums I have seen LBA as suggestion to reinvigorate one's photographic interest and I despair. I wish I had the money to do it - and I still wouldn't! When I tit up how much I've spent in the last 18 months I'm horrified but I have worked very hard so I don't feel too bad.

Actually I don't believe people do always have the money they spend and I really can't understand that but I'm rapidly becoming an old fogey.

I like a lot of John Riley's portraits because he seems able to catch that little bit more from the subject. I can think of a shot he took of a teenage girl with attitude, that's not easy and I speak as a father of two girls no longer teenage thank goodness.
