Glad to see more entries starting to come in. From Oz as well. There's been some great winter pictures posted in the Forum in the past few days - it would be good to see some of them in this competition.

I agree, the judging is going to be tight. But come on Lilly, make my job even more difficult, there must be some weather in India.

I like the surreal effect of Aiki's photograph but I am puzzled why there is not a trail of footprints leading to the couple in the foreground :

It is not soft snow any more on the road. There are so lot of walkers, that the ground is "hard".
So no clear footprints.
(No any cloning work, if you were thinking that !)

Having no visible footprints all adds to the surreal effect

I think that successfully cloning out footprints in snow would be quite difficult to do

I am glad that it is not -12 here although it is close to that in parts of Scotland.

I am happy like kitten about the real winter.
Last 2-3 years have been dark, wet, disgusting muddy and damp here. I hate that gloomy time. Now, in snow, it is like paradise. No ploblem with the minuses, if you have got good clothes and warm home. It is real fun.

BTW, I think there was a record of snow yesterday in Tallinn....more than half meter ( 62 cm )! Some problems with traffic. Plus parking cars cant get away from theis "places".
I have no such sight here.

Edit: 62 cm

Thank you Lilly...I had many winter/snowy photos I could have entered, but it is so rare to capture a sundog...when I researched sundogs and saw the photo examples, I then realized that I had captured it very well indeed.

While I was taking it...I was trying to GUESS what setting I needed and what was the best angle to shoot....bottom line was I did not know...so I winged it and decided I would seek advice after the shot. As I said, I found out that I did 'just fine' after all.

I am now waiting for a great show of the Northern Lights....Need to do something while I am up north here....it is -35 cel right now, so keeping warm preoccupies us all! Although I am grateful it has warmed up to that...as just before Christmas it was -55...Brrrrr!!!!

Some really great photos this time out, but I too am torn between JudithAnn's and Aiki's entries - very different but both stunning in their own way. Glad I'm not the judge (or the next time either I think it's safe to say ).
