Focus on Imaging Show 2010 - NEC Birmingham

Hi
Can anyone tell me why Pentax is not featuring in this year's european Focus on Imaging show at NEC Birmingham from 7th-10 March.I looked into the list of stalls and was shocked to find that Pentax weren't there, while Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fuji and Panasonic were representing in the show.

Having released very competetive DSLR models in 2008/2009, I am quite disappointed to know that the company is not so keen to get the message out when pros,as well as amateurs in photography are going to be there during those days.

Does Pentax consider that they cannot compete with Canon and Nikon and hence do not see the point in representing or is there a valid reason which we do not know?

I know by experience from the shows of other industries, it's hard to justify the money spent on an NEC show, by the returns you see in extra sales.

Hopefully they put in the effort from the NEC into Photokina this year.

Pentax haven't exhibited at Focus for a few years now. Olympus aren't showing this year either. It's all about ROI.

Focus is very much a "selling" show, maybe that's why the manufacturers don't like exhibiting , but there will be a few dealers with Pentax gear there.

Is this show any good? It is just up the road for me so I wondered if it was worth me popping along.

It's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog!

Yes the show is excellent - don't miss it - especially if it's just up the road from you! I shall be there Monday

I am hoping this show must be good cos almost all the big names connected to digital photography i.e.,software, studio lighting, accessories, graphic designers and others concerned with photography are featuring.

But like Richard says, if it's more of a selling show then I can see why some don't want to be on it. There are much more interesting shows for them.
If you want all the big names you should go to Photokina at the end of this year, probably Canon and Nikon together hire a whole hall again
Even Pentax had a decent stand.

18,000 square meters VS 210,000 square meters, it's worth a trip to Germany

Photokina is in Cologne (Koln), Germany. It's a huge show covering many halls, it makes Earls Court look tiny. It's quite easy to get to. Focus is much easier to navigate in a day, you need several days for Photokina!

I will probably visit again in September, I went in 2006, it's a great city for photography. The Cathedral is stunning.

Richard I'll be going too but during the week not weekend, the weekend is far too busy. If you go early in the week you can make it in a day to see everything (just).

I went in 2008 and I still regret it that I didn't take my camera, they had a special grip for on the camera for the K10D and k20D.
