There's a range of different shades of welding glass, from the very light that's used by people who are working close to gas ( oxy-acetylene) welders right through to very dark used by the welder when arc or MIG welding.
The gas welding goggles lens comes in 50mm dia sizes as well.

Whaddayouknow, the welding glass fits Cokin P Series holders perfectly.
Now all I need to do is try it on a very bright sunny day with a very long exposure.

I've got the hood for the Cokin set which I left off for the picture.
It's grey and miserable today so it's not looking good for testing.
