Flying to Dublin

Anyone done this with Aer Lingus ?

I'm heading off next Monday from Glasgow and though it's booked through Aer Lingus it's on an Aer Arann flight. That's OK but it's the baggage bit that's concerning me

According to them I can have a carry on bag and
Quote:
Additional small items (camera, personal stereo, overcoat, handbag or laptop) are allowed.
now the restrictions on size for Aer Arann are smaller/lower than Aer Lingus So I'm having a minor panic .

I'd planned to take my Tamrac Rally 5 [ 35.5cm wide 24 cm high and 14cm deep ] as a camera bag , which it is, and it will only have camera stuff in it - lenses , batteries , lens cloths etc.; as well as my normal carry on bag which is a wee bittie bigger [ 35 by 30 by 18 ]

I've checked and the Tamrac will fit in my other bag , I'll need both in Dublin as I have papers [ lots of them ] to carry.

Anyone know exactly which limits will be applied ? The contact us / help links are useless - only applicable for changing bookings etc.

Have you seen the Aer Arann Terms and Conditions.(8.2)link They say one piece of cabin baggage only. you may be able to have the camera around your neck but not in a bag I suspect.

I've the same sort of feeling - the snag is that this is genuinely an Aer Lingus flight , all my ticketing stuff says so , and it was Aer Lingus who took the dosh BUT it's operated by an Aer Arann plane which is smaller than the Aer Lingus ones , and of course gives me a lower weight for everything

I don't enjoy flying [ mildly claustrophobic ] so this sort of thing doesn't help .

Oh well - suppose the Tamrac will have to be my cabin bag and I'll need to collapse the other bag and see if it will go in my case

I've just re-read your OP and the Aer Lingus site relating to Aer Arann baggage. Although the flight bag size is smaller it still allows you to take a handbag or laptop with the flight bag. Would you get all things into a flight bag and one other hand/laptop bag?link

This is what I'm trying to work out - after all my camera bag is only slightly smaller than my carry on bag . Contents of my handbag [ tiny ] will fit in the front pocket of the Tamrac Rally - I'm trying to work out if the camera bag would equate with a laptop bag ?

As yet I don't have the quantities of paper [ still to be printed and I've not yet got them on my computer ] so I've no idea how much there is involved - so far what I have is 40- 50 sheets and I suspect there will be the same again ]

I'm going to do a trial pack of my case this afternoon to see how much space there is - and how I'm going for weight . This smaller plane is a real PITA

To add to this complicated mess my flight number is a normal Aer Lingus one - EI3223 not an Aer Arann 3000-4000 ARGH

Trial pack of case was interesting - all that's to go in now are an extension block, mains chargers for my phones and the iTouch, the papers and a few books that will have to be taken . and I've plenty of room left - weight - a surprising 7kg !!

I'll check again once I have the papers , but I think there's plenty of room for my carry on bag in the case

That means I can use the Rally 5 as a carry on bag and know that my camera is safe

I've had similar when I've flown with BMI Edinburgh - Heathrow, I always take just hand baggage now and on the Airbus A319/A320 its not a problem but sometimes they stick a tiny Embraer jet on which means that even though I've got my hand luggage through security, etc in the understanding that I'm getting on an Airbus they take the case off you on boarding and stick it in the hold! Its annoying but its why I make sure and keep my camera gear in my laptop bag, its small enough for any plane!
