Flash for action watersports

Hi
Seen this flash and wondered what people think?
Im going to be using it for taking photos of White water kayaking?

Also is this the cheapest place to get one from?

Why would you need a flash for that, i doubt they will be kayaking indoors or in poor light

Using the correct lens is more important.
What camera and lens(es) do you intent to use?

Im using a k5 with a 18-250
During the day its fine, its when I come to take photos in the evening just that extra bit of light would be ideal.

I took some water sports shots recently with my sigma 50-150mm f2.8 no flash needed, it was a dull evening. (not at the start of the trip though)

You might find that they object to flash as it could cause distractions etc.

I would go for Metz 48 or Metz50 instead, they are in the same price range but it has swivel head which make it more useful in my eyes.
But i wonder if they are powerful enough for long range in such situation.

I'm still not sure you should use a flash, the K5 can go easily up to ISO3200.
If you plan on doing this more often i think your money is better spend on sigma/tamron 70-200 f/2.8 lens, this lens focus faster but also let more light go through.

If i was kayaking down a rapid and some one was firing off a flash at me when i am concentrating on staying alive i would not be best pleased.and i speak from experience.Can you not just up the iso on the k5 i have shot at Stockton white water park with k-r and a tamron 70-300mm no problem.

You didn't really answer the questions I posed in the previous thread you posted...

You will need a MASSIVE flash to make any difference with a 250mm lens. The effectiveness of the flash decreases by a quarter every time you double the distance (Google "Inverse Square Law"). So, for a flash that works very well at 2 meters, it'll have a quarter of that power at 4 meters, a sixteenth of the power at 8 meters, and a measely sixty-fourth power at 16 meters. It'll be like trying to use a pocket Maglite for portraiture

Maybe a bank of 4 or 8 of the AF360FGZ will help a bit - but it'll put off the kayakers too!

You are better off honing your panning skills, raising the ISO on the K5, and consider shooting RAW (especially when using higher ISO settings) - before you splash out on flash!

You may get more mileage from buying Lightroom 3 Student Edition
