flash and better beamer

I just bought an AF360FGZ flash for my pentax *ist DL. I also bought a "better beamer" flash extender. I'm having problems figuring out what settings to use to get the best results out of my flash and beamer. I've read through my manual and am now more confused than when I started.
I do mostly wildlife photography and am wanting to use the flash for that.
I would appreciate any help that anybody can give me. Please try and keep it simple and "dumb it down" for me as I am easily confused
