Fire and flames are difficult subjects in general. How did you ignite the match heads, since I am assuming the match sticks were secured in a holder of some sort?

Yes they were in a piece of wood with a small hole drilled in to hold the match. I just held a lighter under the match (out of shot) till I thought it was going to light and then started shooting. Most of the shots were around 1/5000 - 1/8000 exp, f8 - f13. Manual focus.
I have mirrored 1, 4, 5 and 6 as the shapes they made appealed to me.
