.....ps. the reworked cliff looks better to me, the sea also looks more natural

First the revised cliffs picture Nigel: #2 has slightly improved the colour of the sea but the revised sky contrast has resulted in more noise. On balance I prefer your first version.
The beach scene is gorgeous. Colour, compositional balance and above all sharp detail are first class. What's this Samyang 14rmm everyone is raving about?

Great colour and detail as others have said but for me the foreground is very dominant

Really good image which I like a lot - great colours (again), lovely detail in the rock in the forground which provides an anchor for the whole picture (and the leaves on the rock just add to it).
I'm not worried by the dominant foreground, because it's an interesting one, possibly because of the addition of the leaves.
Now to nit-pick - I'd like to see two alternatives for comparison. First, have you got a version with a bit more height to it, to allow the horizon to fall on the third; second have you tried cropping the top to just below where the top part of the tree juts out to raise the horizon to the 2/3rds?
Finally, I must agree with Simon - that Samyang looks like a cracking lens!

i think original sky was definitely better in the 1st, the sea and the level reset has made it a easier on the eye, really liking the 2nd, nice composition and colour, great textures in the cliff, rock and beach. i think it would work well as a b&w also because of these features.

Thanks guys I've had a rather uphill battle promoting the Samyang prime around here (UW zooms are very popular), however maybe the tide is finally turning Again, great textures, colours and composition - a pleasingly vibrant cocktail. My first reaction on seeing this, though, was to check on-line to see how much a Samyang 14mm costs...
Thanks also for the feedback from you all about the new version of the cliffs shot ... I think I'll keep the original sky but with the tilt and deeper water colour - that seems to be the best balance!

I've got some re-worked versions - well, mine are just crops as suggested by Michael and Phil ....
This is a square crop, top brought down and rock moved closer ...

This is a slighter crop, top off a bit and foreground reduced ....

And Joe (redbusa99) processed these for me in silver efex pro - a colour high key and mono high contrast conversion ... thanks Joe, very interesting .... what does everything think ?

Thanks again to you all for the helpful ideas. Late tonight I'll be putting up the 3rd of my Five-in-a-Row

I prefer the square crop here, now the rock is supplemented by the tree....a more balanced image.
Not keen on the black and white version, too messy for me.

I really like your second in the series Nigel, for me it is much, much better than the 'cliffs' shot because it has depth and interest all the way through. I must be in the minority here, but I thought the first shot looked very 'flat' with nothing to lead the eye. The second has everything the first doesn't.
Regarding the colours on the second one, I do think it is a bit over-saturated and something in between the first version of it and the de-saturated one above would be ideal for me. I would also have possibly included a little less of the rock and a little more of the beach, but that's nitpicking.
The details in the shot are lovely, that lens is certainly very sharp and doesn't exhibit any of the distortions that have been seen in some of the images you've posted with this lens.
Well done indeed!
Regards
David

I like the square crop, and IMHO I think it could take stand a bit more off the top as well.
I'm a fan of B&W, but sorry to say that I don't think that this one works - it would probably have helped if there had been more clouds around, as it is you have quite a large area of the image that adds nothing to the overall effect. So. it's the variety of the colour versions that work for me.

Time for the 3rd photograph .... Thanks Michael, David and Phil for your thoughts there, and to Joe again for the alternative versions of No2

This one, I'm afraid, does nothing for me as it's just a nice picture of a cliff but no added interest, ie; some people climbing up the left side would have been great
I much prefer the first one for the contrast in light on the cliffs.

I can't see the whole image without scrolling but I would be tempted to crop a little off the bottom-to concentrate attention on the tree, or the top-to concentrate attention on the rock. As it is the rock and tree compete for attention...for me
I too am yearning for the Samyang 14mm
