If you had more depth in the picture, you would still see distortion, like an increase in the apparent distance. Take a picture of a bench with a fisheye, then "de-fish" the image, and look at the apparent depth of the seat, you'll see what I mean.

Someone said the fisheye effect was making them dizzy, so I tried PTLens to "correct" them, turned out better than I thought.
I have no association with PTLens, other than owning a copy, but I was impressed with what it offered, I'm still a 'fisheye' fan, so don't know how much I will use it, but it did the job I asked of it.
Just thought I would share my experience.
