MF or AF?, I myself am thinking about buying the Samyang 8mm f3.5 but for the amount of use it will get, I am still undecided.

Sure she would not be bothered about manual focus

I have tried the Samyang 8mm, and to be honest there is not much focusing required as all most everything is in focus at around f/8.

DA10-17mm - highly recommended.
Has really close focussing too, so AF is important

I have both the DA10-17 and the Samyang 8mm. I'd recommend the Samyang, unless you really need a zoom. It has a better projection (the fishy distortion), is less susceptible to colour fringing and is cheaper. About the same sharpness. Lack of AF is no big deal at this focal length. Others will no doubt disagree.

I won't disagree for the subject distances you've taken those images at, but I will disagree for close up shots. The DA-10-17 as you know focusses real close only a inch or two in front of the glass.
Some examples ....
click on them for decent size
