First shots with the Bigma

At least you don't need to lift weights if you have a Bigma
In the first one you seem to have focussed behind the bird, the second one is better as far as focussing goes.
Were you using a tripod or trying handheld?
Whilst it is possible to use the beast handheld it is really tough to get the focus right (not to mention exhausting). I used it handheld on my whale watching trip because a tripod would have been useless on the boat but normally I use my tripod. I even got a better tripod for it as it was too heavy for the old one!

I probably was focusing behind it, I had it on my monopod and zoomed out to 500mm I was flopping around like a fish out of water At least you don't need to lift weights if you have a Bigma

I hope to get out with the tripod and give it a proper workout, just need some descent weather and time to do it.
My tripod is the 055xproB with a 488rc4 head, it should handle it ok.

How far away were you from the subject matter in Photo 1 and what is it ?

I think he was about 100ft away but the lens hood was 10ft from the bird
K100D Super, 18-55, 50-200, Sigma 10-20, Sigma 70mm macro and lots of old lenses

We know Clarky was in Australia but who knows where the bird was with that lens

Gwyn you are right it is a Heron
Mx veteran your right also it was about 100ft but the hood wasn't hitting its beak, it was close but not that close
