First shots with FA100 macro

Hi all

Well it was me who bought the FA100 f2.8 macro from JohnMcD, and it came out of the camera bag in earnest for the first time last weekend.

both the shots below were handheld. Problems with the bee was that the flower was moving in a slight wind, bee was walking around, and of course camera shake as I was not using a tripod (silly me) - perhaps a monopod would have been a good compromise as that would have been easy to move to another flower as bees moved (there were about 6 of them).

Bumble Bee - about 2/3 lifesize - uncroped just reduced in size



Model of Plattenwaggen used by VW for in factory transport in late 1940s and has the running gear as used by the original VW Split Screen Type 2 Transporters. Model is 1/25 scale so about 150mm long - uncroped just reduced in size




I'm ver pleased with this lens and although I will not be doing lots of close-up / macro it's nice to have a good macro lens to hand when I need it.

THe focus on the bee would almost suggest you bought John's DS as well

That DS is being currently discussed on the AP forum, well mentioned anyway. It's not going away it seems!

Easy to take cheep shots rather than constructive criticism lets see some of your macro work.

As per the challenge; I love challenges, and would love to show off all my macro work; unfortunately I don't do macro at all, and I have big difficulties raising up to the challenge. I post one photograph, and i think its the closest I get to macro


And because it was shot in MF, I think nobody can say that its shot with the old DS....

Sorry, Nathan, but that background is completely out of focus. Let me give you some advice. You need to use a smaller aperture. About f704, I reckon.

It's a cracker, don't listen to them it focuses perfectley. This is the shot I always used to test my macro flash, this chap is 1/72nd scale so only about one inch high, this is probably at closest focus with the FA100.

I only ever used this lens once outside, at the Duxford tank show this year and the lens was also brilliant outside.

I never had any problems with this one on my DS, ever.

If the year is right in your copyright notice, neither of these could have been taken with the infamous *istDS

Well spotted. I didn't realize that the copyright notice from Picasa embedded itself in every photo you exported, I thought it asked each time . It should of course read 2008.

I like that photo but of course if I was you I'd probably say it sucked, well at least a bit

This is the tighter crop!!! I wouldn't crop it more because I really like the creamy bokeh and the pink and reddish coloured flowers that frame the picture on each side
