First shot with new (scary!) camera and lights!

Camera straight out of the box studio lights arrived on the same day! This shot somehow makes me think of jenson button!

Why :

Nah.... I think its the V neck and white T shirt combination

Erm..where is the constructive critisism in all this?!

Generally too dark IMHO, or maybe it’s too much shadow. Also the grey background does not make the subject standout. Having said all that, I have not tried studio work.

Back to C&C.... I like the framing and the natural expression you have captured but I'm not quite sure about the pose.

I think if the background was very dark/black then the current lighting would look good - the bridge of the nose does have a small amount of shine but you have got a decent catchlight in both eyes. A little too much space above the head for me but that is a subjective opinion. Technically speaking the subjects left hand is slighty out of focus so perhaps more depth of field is required or perhaps leave the hands out alltogether.

As this was a quick set-up out of the box its a nice capture and shows lots of promise - I look forward to seeing more of your pictures

I like the light on this face but the eyes are slightly too dark for me. I'm not so hot on the halo of fuzzy hair surrounding his head, would a darker background make that less obvious? I also find the folds in the front of his jumper, especially the top one, a bit distracting.

You also appear to have a sensor spot near the top edge of the frame.

Thanks everybody for your comments, I think i agree with pretty much all of them and it's really helped me see or notice more aspects of the shot and also gives me lots to think about for the next ones :@)

Yes I had one soft box studio head to the left and a fill light(big white umbrella) facing him.Using a reflector is probably a good idea. His face also looks abit rounder than it normally looks, I'm not sure why.
We got two
We got 2 studio heads, a softbox and an umbrella. It's a whole new ball game using the lights.
The "ian warrior man" was taken next to the window using natural light, very different!

I definately think it is too dark aswell, but I quite like the grey background because it imho, blends in well with the colour of his clothes, skin and hair. But piont taken tho

Yes, i think i should either have had the model lit up more or as you said darker background.
I didn't spend very long in postprocessing this image, which is where i'd try and get rid of that shine!
As for the out of focus hand- I've really not sussed out the f stops very much yet, as my previous camera was a bridge camera with less fstops and not as much noticable difference in dof to me. The gx 10 is very different!

The spot is (after small panic!) actually on the white screen behind the model!
Good point about the fuzzy hair and the folds, he'll have to smarten up for the next shoot lol!
