First shot at abstract

Out walking this afternoon and saw an iron structure over an outflow from a pond (culvert?) Thought I'd try this as an abstract - two versions with different orientation/treatment. C&C would be appreciated, thankyou.

My instant reaction is that it needs to be sharp all across the frame which I dare say was physically impossible which is a bummer. I think the second one is more successful than the first owing to a greater apparent symmetry. Nice observation.

James - I think so.

Mike - I think you're right about the sharpness. I tend to use shallow dof too much and in this case could have gone to f11 quite easily. However, the angle was quite acute to get the composition, so I'm not sure how much it would have altered. Maybe I'll try again. Thanks.

I agree with Mike somewhat, although I think I like them both as is, too. I like the shapes presented in both, although I think they lack punch.

Think I would lose the top segment in #1, to achieve symmetry. Clone out the hair(?) and adjust levels or curves. Be bold - it's abstract!

Another point to consider would be to turn the camera at an angle and place the lines on a diagonal across the image.

Actually Pauly, that's exactly what my 7 year old son did! And it was a better picture too!
