First Macro Shots

I love macros, and wish I could do more!
I like the subjects, but I'm not sure about the focus point/depth of field on the 1st one, and I can't see anything for the legs on the 2nd one.
I just tried to read the exif information to see what aperture you were using in the 1st pic, but there isn't any?
It could be you were using a very wide aperture giving shallow depth of field?
I've had most success using flash and a narrow aperture.
Got any others to share?

I like the grass hopper josh. Lovely colours and composition.
I like very narrow DOF, keep going 'til you get those eyes in focus and you're sorted

The grasshopper would have been a cracking shot if the focus was just shifted on the eyes more. You were so so close.
Lighting looks just about right as well.
If you are using a shallow DOF I would suggest dumping autofocus and going manual (if you aren't allready).

Hi, Thanks guys, comments much appreciated, yep I need to go into manual instead of auto and use the flash to try and increase my depth of field.
I do not know whats happened re exif detail. I shoot in raw and after I convert to jpeg to upload to this site sometimes this detail disappears.

Nice shots, well done.
What I would like to know is why these fora have an obsession with bugs? I have never seen so many pictures of spiders, flies, bees and the like in once place before!
I'll have to dig out my one and only bug photo so I can join in!
Best wishes, Kris.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.
