Let me know what you think as I could do with all the guidance I can get! I quite liked taking the gig photos (fiends band) so I'd like to do a bit more of that, but I struggled with quite dark images which I've had to over compensate on the ISO settings (up around 1600) which has made them a little noisey? If anyone could suggest some cheap, fast (?!) lenses for this type of photography, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks for looking,
Ben.

I wouldn't worry about the noise. It's very rock and roll. I would have liked to see the use of a wide aperture to throw the background out of focus.

Don't be afraid to get in close. You often convey more by getting a single person in the shot than by the whole band.

The shot of the dog is an excellent early attempt. It's good to see you used a low perspective. The background is a little cluttered so next time you might have to drag him onto the grass.

Fur is never easy to get the exposure correct with because of the way it dissapates light. Fill-in flash may have helped add a touch of light to the eyes.
But I think you should be very satisfied with these attempts.

I agree with i-Berg....ditto!! But take Greynolds' comments to heart. When shooting gigs, watch the stage lighting and use it to your advantage, most lighting engineers follow a set pattern, learn their pattern and shoot when the light benefits your shot. Be critical of DoF. Best of luck and keep trying!

Cheers,

Stephen
I gladly welcome C & C's. Being foggy minded they really help me learn.

I think "cry baby" is the best Ben. I really like the image... you have got the DOF just right.

Well done for spotting this as a potential image.
