The second one is sharper. Looks good.
Macro is a specialized area, and just takes practice.

Your tell me it's specialized, you only have a few seconds to try and get everything right on the shots I had, before the little critter was gone.

Good effort.
The first one, your focus is just a bit off. It's focused on his shoulders(?) and left his head OOF. But it looks like enough DOF to capture him well, if the focus was shifted a little to the right.
The second one the focus is better. Seems you've played with the contrast a bit too much tho.

Yep, the little buggers do like to make it difficult. Practice will allow you to improve your speed at getting the shot.
Grasshoppers are a pita. I caught this one taking a break on my door frame.

You'll get the hang of it. Summer is a great time to shoot a lot.
