Firmware upgrade and shutter count

Does anyone know for sure if upgrading the firmware will reset the shutter count? If it doesn't then I have a couple of secondhand Pentax cameras that seem to have a very low count.

I am almost certain it doesn't change. It didn't when I upgraded.
And it doesn't seem logical to allow it to do so. People tend to use frame numbers/original file names as the key structure in there DAM.

No it doesnt reset the shutter count. Only pentax/samsung can do that.

The shutter count in the file names can be reset by the user. Check the real number of shutter actuations by feeding an image file to the PhotoMe program: http://www.photome.de/. This isn't reset by a firmware update or anything else.

To have the facility to change the actual shutter count would be like winding the clock back on a car, not advisable.

If the shutter were ever to require replacement, then it would be reset.

Coo! Looks like I got a couple of bargains then. Both cameras have under 1000 clicks. One K20D and one *ist DS.

Perhaps you are just going by the frame counter displayed by the camera itself? In which case the counter re sets after only 10,000 clicks.

I wish they would make it 100,000 as it is really annoying when it happens and you need to file the images taken together as the later shots start with 0001 while the earlier ones end at 9999..... Frustrating!

And also it can be reset by the user at any time. That's why I suggest using PhotoMe. Have you done that, Sdeve?
