Many thanks for that.
At long last SDXC support (also I do not know what they mean with the footnote "* Transfer rate is not compatible with UHS speed class."?
Could anyone enlighten me on that one?
Sounds all good to me but I still missing the 'Flash bounce' issue to be resolved.
Hopefully in 1.03 as that would make the K-5 unbeatable in its class by miles (even it is still top of its class).
Just better weather is needed now.

UHS speed class essentially defines 100MB/sec transfer rates and the SDXC support is for the card size and not necessarily for the speed of the cards.

Sorry if I sound a bit 'thick' here but what would be the best SDXC Card then to use with my K-5? the 'U1' or just the plain 'I' ?
I want to make use of the 64GB capacity as I shoot in RAW+ with the best option (16.2MP). At the moment that gives me just over 300 shots on my 16GB card. I would need sometimes the greater capacity and changing a card may sometimes be out of the question.
As I now understand it 'U1' gives me 'real time' recording and 'I' gives me 104MB transfer rate (but the k-5 would not support that speed).
So what would be the better card for the K-5?
As the cards are not cheap (at the moment) I do not want to spend money on something that I may not can make use of!
At the moment that confuses me.
Anyone can clarify this for me?

Now I read more...
the UHS is within the card and not necessarily externally. Sandisk don't have an SDXC card, so for the moment I'd probably stick with 32GB Extremes or try a Kingston. They're ten times the price of a 16GB, though....

Well they do, but only at Ultra 15mb/s it seems from a quick google.

Is there someone who actually can give me the answer to what I wanted to know please?
From the Link and reading through it I understand that it is the card reader/writer in the camera that slows the card down.
But as there are two standards for those cards (one which supports live recording and one which supports 104MB/s) which one is the right one for the K-5.
Obviously I only very occasional MAY use the video function so the picture is of more importance to me but which of those two standards is the better one for my purpose?
I am still confused, Sorry.

I would love to answer your question but it confuses me! When you state transfer rate are you meaning when the card is read? I think the important thing you need to know it at what rate media will be recorded onto the card. If you were recording HD video then the faster the better, However, still image wise I guess you pay extra if you want the speed increase, but it would help if you explained why you need this speed. Capacity is a different area all together and this I can understand, but again if cost were my main concern I would just buy SDHC cards. I think if you really think about the question you are asking you will come to your own conclusion.

It is the write speed I am concerned about. If you read the article it seems there are two standards for the cards.I would love to answer your question but it confuses me! I want the large capacity and that's the reason for me to change to an SDXC card but Pentax stated that "* Transfer rate is not compatible with UHS speed class."
So, what is the UHS class and what is the restriction on the K-5?
According to the article in the link there are two standards 'U1' and 'I' but I do not understand where or what will be the best one for the K-5 if you shoot 98% photos?
What card do I really need? The 'U1' or the 'I' standard? Yes, I want and need the minimum of 64GB (that's why I have not been getting a 32GB SDHC card as I knew it was only a matter of time till I can get the larger capacity of the SFXC card), but I did not count on the new standards and this has me now completely confused, in particular with the Pentax statement in the Firmware upgrade 1.02.
I hope that this makes it a bit more clear what I am on about?
Kind regards

That's OK, thanks for your help so far anyway. There are some Class 10 SDXC cards about and I may get one of them till it becomes more clear what each of those standards means.SmutjeUK

The Pixar that is featured here in the News is a class 10 and also a bit expensive at the moment I am hopeful it will come down in price soon when other manufacturers come up with their cards.
