I am sure the program tells you it has updated, it was fairly simple affair if I remember correctly... I am not even convinced it is necessary to upgrade...

The pdf file contained in the firmware zip file (link) gives you instructions on how to run the update. Once you've run the initial steps on your PC, you have to remember to remove the batteries from the flash before connecting it via USB.
You then have to execute the next step with the flash connected and when that's finished you get the "Ok, Update successful finished" message on your screen. I've never had any problems to be honest - are you not getting this final confirmation?

Hi Mark, is it the 'middle one' of the three downloads??

Yes Chris - it's the middle one if you're running Windows. It comes as an executable file so you just have to double click on it to unzip it (to the location you want). You'll then see a .pdf file (called Metz_mecablitz_FW_Update_GB_Windows_2010) which contains the instructions.
