Finally the K20D and K200D are available in Holland, Konijnenberg has them both mark as in stock!
Maybe I'll make a trip to Den Ham one day soon.
It'll have to wait until after the weekend though as I'm off to Vlieland for a soggy weekend break on Friday. Pity I don't have a weatherproof camera, but I have packed the Ds's raincoat

sadly, Gerri went out and bought a K10 with lens last month.
:0(
She didn't know I had my eye on a K20 and was waiting to buy one this spring.
Can't really justify buying one now....
2 k10's and a ds2, is enough camera for this year's budget....
on the positive side, there's some new pro camcorders from sony....
;0)

Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

Sorry Clarky. I am seriously thinking about it, but still debating whether or not to just get a K10D and be happy with that. I'm not sure I really need the extra MP of the K20D, and whilst live view would be very nice I'm not sure I want to spend so much just on a body, when you have a good alternative in the K10D.[

The K200D is not an option for me because of the pentamiiror, I think, but who knows if I get my hands on one I may like it a lot and be happy to put up with a dimmer viewfinder.
If I had the time I'd go to the shop this week, but this weekend trip has been booked for months, celebrating the bill payers 60th birthday. (But in this case I am paying the bills - now you see why I'm having to wait so long for a new camera )

As the K10 is literally half the price of the K20, this was my main reason for buying one a couple of weeks ago. A simple question of excellent value. Few situations, I suggest, warrant more than 10 megapixels, and the difference between the two cameras isn't that vast.
One of the big differences it seems, and doesn't seem to get mentioned in the press, is that digital SLRs are disposable. Think about it, years ago when you bought a film camera, you'd keep it for years. Now, because of the Resolution Race, paranoia sets in, and everyone changes their cameras for the latest bunch of megapixels every two years or so. I mean anyone who goes about in public with a 4 MP camera will likely be hanging their head in shame. Be that way for 6MP too, soon (if it's not already).
The camera manufacturers must be rubbing their hands in glee. Finally the golden goose has arrived, while the public gets techno-fleeced yet again.

That's one way of looking at it. The other is that the technology is genuinely improving fast and people actually enjoy having the latest or second-latest model to get it.The camera manufacturers must be rubbing their hands in glee. I don't feel at all fleeced after upgrading from a DS to a K10D. Overall it seems like a genuine improvement to me. I'm really enjoying using it. Those with more money than me can go straight to the K20D - and I bet they'd enjoy that even more.
At least we don't have to buy and process film any more. That somewhat makes up for the extra expense of replacing a camera every few years, not to mention all the other benefits.

Actually, that's very true.At least we don't have to buy and process film any more. That somewhat makes up for the extra expense of replacing a camera every few years, not to mention all the other benefits.
Sad, though, that hardware can't be designed to be modular and upgradeable, instead of just chucking it in the bin (er, I mean on Ebay).

....That is a good idea. I bet the K10D could be improved a lot if only one or two of the circuit boards and sensor was user-replaceable.
It could also be improved simply with another firmware update - but even that doesn't look likely. That, I must admit, is a fleecing.
