Is it possable to alter how my K10 counts the number of shot taken, at the moment every time I up load to the computer it starts the count from 1. I want the count to be total shots taken.

Menu>Record Mode>Memory>File No. should be set to ON.
Best regards, John

Welcome to the forum.
press on the Menu button and then in the Rec. Menu scroll all the way down and you will find Memory.
Go in there and see if File No. is checked on.

And John is faster ^^

Two notes

1)
Download the manual in PDF format; it makes searching in the manual a lot easier. E.g. from http://www.pentaximaging.com/support/manuals-and-literature/

2)
My file 'count' went from 1000 to 7000 after a service. I think this has to do with the fact that they used their own memory card which had a higher count on it.

Doesn't work that way i believe.
File count is saved on the board and not on the memory card.

They must have changed your board or updated it with a new firmware?

Firmware was indeed updated. I know that the file number is not on the memory card, but the camera could have compared its filenumber with the highest one on a memory card and continued from the highest number.

But your explanantion about the firmware makes sense.

The shuttercount is what's used for creating the filenumber and the shuttercount is stored on the board.
