Here are a few shots from a little concert, as part of a dinner I went to over the weekend. Slightly different to the usual concerts that you guys might have been to on two counts - the artists were performing whilst sitting down (traditional in South Asian music) and of course they were singing in Pashto, a language of the Pashtun people who are from the north west of Pakistan and southern Afghanistan.
K3 with DA*50-135, except No.1 for which I used DA*16-50
Thanks for looking.

4. It took a few gos before I got what I was looking for, which was to get the drummer's hand in a blur.

3 is my favourite, both for the lack of a colour cast and the tight framing and hand movement showing the drumming action. Its a great intense capture!

The others I feel suffer from a dominant tungsten/pinky cast. What was the white balance setting used and did you carry out any colour balance adjustments?

Thanks for you comments. The pink colour cast is because the artists were surrounded by pink coloured sofas. Things were made worse by the pinkish coloured carpet. I have tried to adjust the white balance but looks like didn't make a good job but in any case reflects the way things looked.

No 4 does look good as you intended with blurred hand. No 2 works well for me, inspite of the colour cast, as the singer is immersed in what he is doing.
Out of interest, what is the instrument that the guy in front is playing?

Good shots, particularly 4 and 1. I think you really captured the essence of the event. Well done.

Thanks for your comments.

Andy, the instrument is called a 'harmonium' and is similar to an accordian. The artist's left hand squeezes the bellows while the right plays the keys. It's very popular and is played in every South Asian music. In fact usually the lead singer plays it like they play the guitar in Western music. That accompanied but the drums called 'tabla' (with a soft 'T') is the essence of South Asian music. The string instrument is called 'rabab' and is unique to Pashtoon culture. When played well is absolutely beautiful. A good sample is in the song in the link below:
Rabab Music
BTW, the song is in Persian and the poet is Ummar Khayam - Google him.
And if you want to listen to good Pakistani music, just listen to the other music form 'Coke Studio, Pakistan'.
Sorry for the long reply.
Cheers
