Faulty DA*300?

Been trying my new DA*300 today for the first time.

This is my second one, owned one until last year when I sold it as I was not using it. But missed it so much, got another one.

Now this one seems a bit noisy during focussing, and fails to focus reliably (where my DA 18-135 WR just nails the focus instantly). Manual focussing also seems a bit loose (much looser than DA 18-135)

I can't remember exactly how my old one used to be...

Have I got a dud?

It's certainly possible, I bought mine earlier in the year and was not in the least impressed It was back focussing too far for the in-camera correction to have any effect and, like yours, the focussing was unreliable.

It went back and the (focussing?) drive motor was replaced under guarantee.

It has been absolutely fine since

I have just compared the two and the manual focus ring on my 18-135 is noticeably 'stiffer' than that on the 300. The 300 ring is much smoother in operation but in no sense loose. Auto-focus is also completely silent....

Thanks

Just received a replacement and the new one definitely better at focussing and manual focus slightly more damped.
