The Class A4 express steam locomotive 'Dominion of Canada' has been given a total face lift and returned to its original 1930s appearance in blue in the workshop at Locomotion, the National Railway Museum outpost at Shildon, Co Durham. The engine was one of two A4s brought back from transport museums and Canada and the USA last autumn.
They will appear in a line up all six surviving A4s at York in July.
Sister engine Dwight D Eisenhower from a museum in the USA has been restored to its late British Railways 1960s livery at York.
Work on Dominion of Canada has just been completed at Shildon where it was lined up alongside another 1930s express engine, the ex-LMS Duchess of Hamilton.
My pictures show how it looked when it arrived from Canada last year and how it appears now.

And she's got her skirt on, and her bell top

I'm hoping to be down that way in July sometime, do you have any dates David?
Cheers
Brian.

Nice shots David

An old workmate of mine sent an email today and part of it was him mentioning a tript in July to see these and has the early access pre 10am (if I remember correctly)

Seems to be something that will attract a lot of interest
K10D, K5 plus plenty of clueless enthusiasm.

The line up of all six A4s is July 3rd to 17 in the National Railway Museum at York. Entrance is free but on entering you are asked to make a 'voluntary' donation of £3 towards the cost.
Early morning photo shoots for photographers (before the crowds arrive at the museum) have ben arranged between the same dates but the £15-a-head tickets have already sold out.
A similar line up of all six A4s will be staged at Shildon in the autumn.
Also a high speed run on the East Coast Main Line is planned with the A4 'Bittern.' For this event the network-wide speed restriction of 75mph for historic steam locos is to be lifted to 90mph. And before that happens Bittern is be given a test run without passengers on the train at 9mph above the speed restriction. Its possible the driver will push to go for 100mph on that occasion.

These were taken at Shildon Simon. Flying Scotsman is partly dismantled in the workshops at the National Railway Museum in York.

They certainly look magnificent beasts. Don't know if I'll get to York but feel sure a few photos will be shared on here
