FA Limited smc vs hd lenses

The only thing I can say is that the HD coatings do seem to be better at eliminating flare. So if we wanted flare effects they would be easier to generate with SMC than HD ones would be.
Rounded apertures will produce different bokeh effects, which might or might not suit. The trend seems to be towards rounded apertures, but if we want star effects then perhaps we need the older sharp edges.
Lenses have different characteristics and some of them are neither better nor worse, but just different.

When I look online, it looks like the smc versions of the 31 and 43 FA Limited are more expensive than their hd counterparts. Do they perform better than the hd versions?
I can find similar comparisons online for DA versions, and the HD versions are rated higher there.
Do you have personal experience with these? Do the round blades make much difference?
