The 43mm is a superbly engineered lens of the highest order, so anything that's slightly loose or wiggles is not normal.
Does it feel different to how it used to?

Mine definitely doesn't rattle. The only thing that I notice is a little 'backlash' in the focussing ring.
While the aperture ring does have a little play, it's not enough to rattle.

I don't remember a rattle before, just it being slick and lovely. Guess I'll take it back as it is still under warranty.
Thanks all. K.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

Just checked mine, no rattle or looseness in any way, as you would expect.

No play in mine either - have you checked the five cross-head screws on the back of the lens are nice and tight? A few seconds with a screwdriver *could* save you the hassle of a return.
