FA 31mm Limited

Those are all zoom lenses, you know what you're getting yourself into with a prime lens right?
What do you plan to use the lens for?
You said you shoot landscapes, that can be done of course with a FA 31mm depending on your style but maybe something a little bit wider might be better?
One way to test if the focal length is right is to put one off your zoom lenses on that focal length and leave it there for the whole day.
You notice fast enough if the focal length is for you or not.

It's an amazing lens, but if you don't know what you're going to use it for, I wonder if it's a good investment!

problem is, once you get one ltd, you'll lust after another one...
31ltd? One of the best lenses I have used, period.
If the FOV suits you (which is kind of important with prime) I don't think you'll regret buying it....

If it's the focal length that you want and it fill your other requirements than buy it.
There is little more we can say because we don't know you so it's hard to give the perfect advice tailored for you alone.

May be me, but since I've been buying lenses for a body, I aim at 180 degrees FOV to 8 degrees FOV within limitations.
An example being my last system. I bought four lenses ranging from 114 degrees FOV to 12' FOV. So two more lenses get me to 180 degrees (FE) and 8 degrees (long tele) FOV respectively.
The focal length will be whatever is needed to get the desired FOV on any given body.
Focal length is fine in discussion but isn't it what you see through the viewfinder that matters?

i don't really want to compare the two directly, because i have no way of speaking of the 31mm ltd, since i've never owned one.
but i always held the sigma 30/1.4 in very high esteem. i shot one when i was with sony, and its optics were right up there with the best lenses i had.
don't want to cloud your decision-making too much, but i really see the 30/1.4 as an incredible value optic. i've opted for the 35/2.8 da limited for size considerations, but if i were in the market for a faster normal, then i'd go with the sigma again in a heartbeat.

Thanks Gillbod. As you may have noted, I own 2 Sigmas and 2 Pentax. The Sigmas are great lenses but the IQ of the DA 12-24 is fantastic. I decided to go for a prime lens and didn't think of anything other than Pentax. I am not sure how much the Sigma is but the Pentax is $965 - which makes about £600. As Smeggypants said, you only live once so I feel, 'why not'!

Well we know it's going to be used on an APS-C digital body so we know how what the AOV would be for the lens.The focal length will be whatever is needed to get the desired FOV on any given body.

To calculate the FOV would be another matter though but since you also don't give those numbers but only AOV i think you've used the wrong abbreviation
Also the OP said that that was the focal length that was needed so all we can say is if the lens is good or not.
And since the OP used all digital lenses and zoom lenses that cover that focal length i'm sure the OP knows what he/she talking about.

I have been a silent reader on the forum for some time now but have deicded to break my silence now .
I have a little question - I am about to pull the trigger on the FA 31mm Limited (actually asking a friend to buy it from Adorama). What do you guys think? Should I go ahead - I have been lusting after it for some time? I usually shoot landscapes and my current lenses are: DA 12-24, Sigma 18-50 and 50-150. I have the DA18-250 as well but have not used it quite some time.
