FA 31mm Limited

if your favorite FL is between 20 and 30mm, the FA31 might be too long for your intended use. I think that boeforce's advise is sane; set your zoom to 31mm and don't change it during a shoot. If that works out well, get the FA31.
I bought the FA31 as I wanted one fast lens in my kit and it should more or less match the 50mm on a SLR. The FOV is exactly what I expected and works for me.

FL are 14-24mm, 24-70mm, 50mm, 70-200mm and a 1.7TC.K10D wrote:

To calculate the FOV would be another matter though but since you also don't give those numbers but only AOV i think you've used the wrong abbreviation

I like the term digital lens. The four above must then be digital and analogue.
The designer of the 31mm Ltd may never have realised that it didn't need to be sharp at the edges? Since it's mostly shot through the sweet spot nowadays.
Buy the lens from Adorama, if you don't like it, it will sell here.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll chew over it and decide. I like the idea of fixing the FL on my zoom at 31 and taking some shots. To be honest, I have thought of doing it.
My other reasoning is that since the lens is so popular, it wouldn't be too difficult selling it, if I don't like it and buying it cheaper from USA would mean that I won't lose that much money on it.

That's a fair point but you will still make some losses... just test the focal length, if that works out for you i'm sure the FA 31mm would be a good lens.

No problem Stefan, the term needs dropping as far as Pentax is concerned as there's no chance of putting the wrong lens on a Pentax DSLR.K10D wrote:

Having just bought the 12-24 myself and seen just how sharp it is I'm not sure how the 31mm will add much to your current line-up as you can quite comfortably crop from 24mm to 31mm with no real loss in IQ.
I bought the 40mm F2.8 recently to use as a "pano" lens whilst hiking etc, perhaps a focal length around/above 40mm might prove more useful, although cropping from the 12-24 is still a possibility.

I have the 31mm....I tend to find I alter my shots to match the lens, rather than the other way round!.....It's worth it just to see the results!

I have both the 12-24 and the 31mm. I usually have them both with me, I think they are quite different lenses, and both of them great. The 12-24 is my favourite for landscapes, the 31 is more versatile. And did anyone mention its bokeh and 3d effect?

Besides this, I have to mention that framing the subject properly results in superior IQ to cropping. The more pixels working to secure the image you want, the better. This difference is not subtle but very noticeable, and only gets worse as you manipulate the image.

Well guys, thanks very much for your advice. Sorry I didn't post anything over the last couple of days but I had a busy weekend.
The news is that the lens has been bought and is winging its way to my friend's house in Chicago. When I'll be able to get it is another matter - will depend on someone coming over to the UK and bringing it with them. Once I have my hands on it, I will post some shots.

As Anvh said, you need to know what will you use it for.
As a test of this focal length, you can use your Sigma 18-50 with fixed 30mm to take some photos first.
