The detail is amazing. Never really done macro work, but I can see the attraction. To be able to see what normally we cannot.

yep I am not into macro as well, it's just that I always try to understand the technique that other photographers use when I am attracted by their work. As I wrote in the article, the first photos like this were made by Suren Manvelyan, but when I asked him how he did it, he told me that it "was secret"

That is my usual reply when I capture a great photo by accident and cannot remember the settings I used.

he made several projects like that and took incredible photos of animal eyes as well, I think he knows

Great shots!
Did you use the TC with the tubes (in which case which way round) or just the TC for the last shots?
IIRC Extension then TC gives more magnification than the other way round...
