I seem to remember a non pentax rubber eye piece magnifier that fits the k10. My main purpose is to keep my nose away from the viewing screen. The pentax clip on seems to be bulky and more than i need. Any advice, please

The trouble is that anything that puts your eye further back will make it harder to see the whole image at once. Instead you have to move your eye around to look at only part of the image at once.

I'm using the Pentax 1.18x one (called the O-ME53), primarily to reduce my greasy nose marks on the screen (I use the 'wrong' (left) eye when taking photos). The sligh magnification is useful, but as Pete says you do sometimes have to move your eye slightly, in particular to read the digital readout at the lower edge of the viewfinder.
