Expanded dynamic range - disadvantages?

Anyone knows what are the disadvantages of using expanded dynamic range in K20D (apart from the obvious reduced ISO range)?
First I read the manual I thought that it was a good idea to switch the feature on, so I'd loose less details in shadows, but now I wonder if I was right.

The main disadvantage (and maybe the only one) is a slight increase in noise level and the loss of ISO 100.

I think it's a pseudo increase in dynamic range rather than a real one. It effectively slightly expands the range into the highlights side of the spectrum rather than the shadows. There is an increase in noise - most noticeable in the shadows.

You can get a similar effect with RAW by under-exposing and pushing in post-processing.

Thanks - and I wondered why I have noise in shadows @ISO 200. Next time I'll switch it off and look at the difference then.
