LOL, the worst of it is I know you're right. I also have the FA 50mm 1.4 so the temptation to complete the set will be strong...

I can just see money seeping out of my bank account already congratulations! but beware, when you start shooting limiteds, you are doomed. no way back...
Is it just me or does every purchase decision get compared to camera equipment. New TV to replace my old CRT? nah thats a new lens. New suit for work? nah thats a couple of filters...
I think I'm doomed !

The 31 is a very fine lens. Looking at the technical analyses it looks just about as good as it gets. And yet I just haven't seen the magic that the 77 and 43 are capable of. Plus although it would make a fine landscape lens the hood means attaching filters is a right pain. So I'm much less tempted by the 31.

Totally agree, and it just reinforces that technical tests alone do not get to the soul of a lens. Lenses have, or have not as the case may be, character. The 43mm has, for me, a much warmer character than the 31mm, despite the fact that the 31mm pereforms "better", whatever better may mean. The 31 is a very fine lens. The problem is that the words used to describe this can be a bit subjective-sounding. It takes time to get to really know a lens.
Best regards, John

It's about two things. am I literally the only person who just doesn't get the whole limited lens thing ?
The first is the beauty of something finely crafted. The lenses are beautifully manufactured to very high standards, using traditional materials and techniques. In Limited Quantities.
The second is a superior rendering of the images, that fine sense of quality that goes beyond MTF tests. Lenses with character.
This does not come cheap, not would we want it to if it compromised that fine quality.
Best regards, John

jep, john, you are absolutely right.
the most beautiful lens is silver 31 ltd. you can just sit and watch.
and the rendering. i was using tamron 17-50 before, very fine lens, very good. but when you put 31 on and compare it, you are doomed. not pixelpeeping, but it has a lot to just admire. and does not come cheap.

This is my dream lens.
If only the bloody electricity and gas bills wouldn't arrive every second month, I possibly could afford one too.
Lucky you.
