Evenly lit colored backdrops

As you've posted this on the Flash section I presume you are going to use flash. In that case I think you'll find it quite difficult to get even lighting all over. Unless you are very lucky or very skilled I think you'll end up with lighter and darker areas.
This may not be possible with what you are going to photograph, but if so would it be possible to cut out your subject in Photoshop and paste it onto a coloured background?

Am I missing the point here...? Why cant you just use two lights one on each side with softboxes to diffuse the hard light centre and meter it across the background to make it even accordingly.
