My Espio 115V starts rewinding after taking 3-5 pictures on a new roll (36). Anyone with the same problem? Can I repair it myself?

Thx,
Danny

My 120 did the same thing, had to send to Pentax for repair.
I have no idea what caused the problem and couldn't see any way to fix it myself.
Repair cost was £54.99 which included a full service and full six month guarantee.

Well ... I am not paying £54.99 for repairs. That's about the price I paid for the camera! I read something about "premature rewind" in a document from Kodak. It seems that "long-loading" can be a problem.

Danny,
I've just read the same article and it would certainly suggest that was the major cause.
Are you still having problems despite 'correctly' loading the film?
I've used a number of cameras for many years and have only had this problem with the 120 - so I really don't think it's the way I load the film, but I suppose some cameras may be more susceptible to this problem than others!

Kimbo,

I still have try another roll. Don't have much hope, though. Btw: when I give the camera a good shake, something inside moves around. The time has come to go digital, I guess ...

Thanks,
Danny

That certainly doesn't sound good to me!

Incidentally, it looks as though my 120 is going back to Pentax - first film since the repair and the darned thing's playing up again.
It performed flawlessly up to frame 34 and then began rewinding, not only was this somewhat early but was also erratic. The frame counter displayed 0 but I suspected that the film had only partially rewound.
My fears were confirmed when opening the back to discover that very little of the film had actually been wound back into the cartridge.
I suppose what I should have done was to send the camera back without attempting to remove the film so that Pentax could save it - but what a lemon I would have felt had it been ok!
Thankfully the warranty is still valid and hopefully Pentax can attempt a further repair and it'll just cost me the postage and the annoying loss of a film's worth of shots (some of which I am very annoyed about )

Finally tried a new (12 exposures) roll this weekend. No luck. The camera refuses to forward the roll beyond picture #1. I tried it several times by rewinding the roll manually.

So ... for my vacation in Egypt I bought a brand new digital ultrazoom camera. The result: 300+ excellent pictures!

Kimbo: hope it all worked out for your Pentax camera?

Danny,
My 120 now appears to be ok - following a second trip to Pentax.
I think they actually replaced the winding mechanism this time rather than just giving it a service.
With new camera prices now being so low, I was hesitant to pay the repair cost but my 120 is a particularly nice example and does have a few features that are not available on some newer models.
Your 115V is a relatively recent addition to the model lineup and I'm amazed that this problem is still a major issue and it's not just confined to Pentax!

Hope your good luck continues with you digital model.
