Epson 800 Printer

My Epson 800 has stopped printing. The ink empty light is on and I know that only one ink. (the cyan) is empty but when I press the button to find which is empty it goes to each ink in turn and shows all as empty. (hence not printing) Has anyone had this problem? Is it the printer or is it my PC? Can anyone help.

Printers can to tricky things, but it may just need patience. What I would do is reboot everything from cold and replace the ink you know is empty. If it's still playing up, then reboot again.

After that, we think again, but likely the problem will have been cured.

I have an older Epson R200 and sometimes get the same problem when using "compatible" inks, i.e. not Epson OEM. I get around it by switching the printer On and Off, and then checking the inks levels via the "Status Monitor". So far, that has always worked.

Remove all the inks and then put them back in.
This might fool the printer in to thinking you have replaced with new.

I don't think there's a guaranteed solution but try:

Uninstall the driver, download the latest version and install

Dave (Fatbiker)'s trick with the cartridges

Both have worked for me in the past

Thanks to all of you. I haven't the time just now (I'm off to work in the local theme park this weekend) but I'll try some of these solutions on Monday and let you know if any of them work.
Any other remedies will be gratefully accepted along with the others.

Well folks it's fixed. I tried the computer ON-OFF approach, tried to check the ink levels, no joy. I even went on the Epson help chat line. Still no joy. I then did fat8biker "Daves" solution and fitted a complete set of new cartridges (That gave me a pain in the wallet as all but the cyan were recently replaced) but it worked. I now have a working R800 again.

I have the same printer Vic and I'm using third party cartridges with no problem.

What I have noticed in the past is that if any one cartridge becomes empty, not just low, the printer will not print.

Glad you got it sorted though.

I've had several Epson printers and found a very useful (FREE) Utilities program. See this link:-

I used it to reset one printer after it stopped working because the head cleaning sponge pad was fully saturated.
I carefully removed the sponge pad (wearing latex gloves and with the printer over a washable surface !), washed and dried it and replaced it before resetting the print count using SSC.

The website doesn't mention Win 7 but if you have XP you are OK.

First Mannesty Peter. I've used mine for years with JetTec inks no problem and with one ink empty it still worked. This was a new problem.

Dave. I may have written that wrongly and misled you. I actually did remove and replace all the inks as you said but that had no joy either. THEN I tried all new inks as a last resort and it worked. As I said a big pain in the wallet.
