Wire, string rope etc
The Judging. Well I was getting quite worried for a while but thanks for the entries and lots well on the wire target. I've enjoyed the judging sorry if its bobbins. Its been exciting waiting as the entries come in.
Dr Orloff, Life behind Wire.
Simple composition of a leopard. Irritating wire getting in the way of a beautiful beast. (Hang on, its the point doh!) The cat is perfectly in focus. Lovely whiskers. Two sets of wire surround the cat. Foreground wire blurred and the rear wire slightly better in focus. Guessing by the two zoo threads this was in a zoo. I like the positioning of the cat, space in front. The wire is prominent and highlights the captivity. Great use of wire in an evocative image. Captivity writ large.
Aliengrove, Barb
Oooh, blue and cold blue wire. Lovely wire, floating off centre against a rich blue background, my imagination wants this to be the sky, I don't care if it isn't. Very strong simple graphic image, simple but powerful. The symbolism of the barb is well known. Lovely strong graphic image.
Prieni, Jelly fish squeezed through chicken wire,
Leave me guessing next time, please. Lovely rich blue and nice pattern of the green wire disappearing into OOF haze and splat the ectoplasmic snotty payload shot with pinky threads. Little drops of water cling to the wire. Abstract and disconcerting. But the jelly is caught at a lovely angle clearly showing the glassy body. Yuck and double yuck. Great capture. (was once surrounded by jelly fish swimming off Travemunde so I have no great love, probably a distant descendent (me or it) ).
Cardif Gareth, Bridge Wires,
Mono, interior with different floors or levels all out of focus. Wires in focus in a spread at different angles spreading from top right. The wires change from black to white as the light changes and reflects. They look like cheese wires or harp wires cutting through the scene. This is quite a geometric composition. The perspective of the horizontal and vertical lines and pillars with the hooped feature. The diagonal lines cut through the scene like a harp turned to cheese cutter. I'm slightly annoyed by the white beam. (Have a word please.). Its interesting with the different levels visible. Strong image.
GlynM, Under the Desk,
Glyn, Glyn, Glyn,...I see the evidence of a lack of dusting and vacuuming and economy of effort. I see computer cables. I see CAT-5 patch cable, I see coms PSU. And I see cables/wires, which is what was asked for. This seems to be a comment on the evolution of IT in the office. The need for ever more mains sockets, the power hungry devices that swamp out lives. The confusion as electrons pulse past each other doing their separate tasks. Unfortunately its a little dull under your desk and while I am pleased you entered a sharp technically acceptable image with a good tonal range on another day it might win but today you're a runner up.

Hmmmmm, Tim, Nice mono image, cold shiny wires spreading out. Lovely sparkles of light bokeh here and there ( verb: to bokeh). Super in focus(ish) bit drifts in from the out of focus front and back. The image has an abstract quality to it, almost like a Man Ray, cast off. Good effort on topic but I think you're beaten this time.
Big Jacko, Wire We not Getting Through.
Lots of colour, Mr Eggleston might have glanced in this direction had he walked the street. I didn't think HDR as soon as I saw it, which is a plus. (as dislike the flickr cliche HDR shots, I think some detail gets lost and sharpness is compromised, not that sharpness is everything). Anyway, lots of colour, slight blue tinge to the blacks (I'm guessing) and the blue and green (shop?) frontages. Nice chaotic jumble of wires down which all our important information flows vs the strong solid organised pipe down which waste water runs. I like the vivid colours the blues and the orange/sands. The chaos that happens above eye level. Nice
Don, shocking,
What a take, ha ha, elicited a good response, which I suppose is the intention so, well hit. Wires falling out of the side of a head, sparking, tongue lolling, eye(singular) rolling. Good trick or good PP, I can't see the PP marks. Like an extra from something like zombie Scrubs meets Surrogates. Nice lighting and background. Technically excellent simple, and good execution and very, very funny.

A neat little cropped delight of turny twisty green stuff. Good microstock . Oh hang on, the technical issues have been solved and we have a delightful close up of vine leaves in the sun, the vine trained in a twist of string, the vine tendrils curling about looking for something to grab onto. Lovely light on the fresh leaves, selective focus picking out the veins. If I'm to be critical (my job tonight) then a tad over exposed (IMHO) on the sun lit bit. Very nice capturing the essence of the climbing vine.

What's this? The forbidden frut? Bright sharp perfect tomato offset 5/8ths across 1/3rd up (ish), including green stem. And a surrounding of almost organic twisty wrapped wire coiled chaotically round and round. The focus is good the lighting is good, the shadows increase the complexity of the wire. Probably inspired by time in the greenhouse. It looks like the illustration for a magazine article about GM tomatoes. Good entry.

W00t! My first 'honourable mention' in a compo! I'm well-pleased with joint-third (at the very least, it means I haven't got to worry about judging!).

And well done to Don. I must confess as soon as I saw that photo go up, I thought - dat's it... game over, man, game over! A very inventive bit of work, and extremely well executed. Please don't make that sort of shot the subject for the next compo, or I am scr3w3d.

Tony, I really liked the barb and its a striking image but the others had a bit more going on(for me). The personal thing too having swum with the jellies and a touch of saturated Eggleston detail.
I enjoyed the way your entry evolved and grew.
