I like it, but is it possible to get a bit more detail into the foreground?

I like it, and so like illuminated foregrounds in this type of shot, but this tim I think it was as is. I'd black out the foreground as mch as possible.

Nice pic, has depth.

I like it as a silhouette. The blacker the better.

OK, I can see keeping the buildings in silhouette but I would crop off some of the band along the bottom.

OK Barrie maybe your right? I would (If it was mine) just a teeny weeny bit brighten the back ground to make the silhouette stand out even more. However it's not mine. It belongs to dougf8 to do with what HE wants.

Thanks, it's interesting to hear the ideas, I fear the detail might be lost in the lower portion but I'll do a few versions on lightroom and post a couple tonight hopefully.

I might put a graduated exposure to lighten the top and darken the lower band.

Thus was rushed through Rawtherapee and I've not got the hang of it yet.

I like it as it is, there's mystery in the dark foreground. Just a suggestion to try; in the dark building there's a hint of a couple of windows. Would it work if they were lightened very slightly?

In the Light version you now have a hit of detail in the foreground, while retaining the silhouette effect. The trees in the center ground have gained more form and interest and the sky I think has also gained some colour variation.

If I had to put them in order it would be light-dark-saturate

I loved the dark one and didn't mind the large expanse of black as the image sat comfortably on it and the eye was lead out to the last chimney and sun. Fab!
Then the light one arrived and I loved that too. I wanted to extend that detail to illustrative amounts, with corresponding attention to the sky.
It's just a cracking shot that I would be playing with for hours
I think they all work.

Cheers, I'll spend a bit more time on them, just worked through LR3 at the moment, I might send them to Photoshop next. Shame I didn't get down there 10 minutes earlier, shame I didn't have my tripod .... still at least I had the camera in the car

I usually prefer some detail in shadows, but not for this image. I like your shot as it was in the first version posted, there's nothing I would do with it at all!

It's a great image, one to be proud of.

I very much like the light version, which for me works much more in harmony with the soft mistiness of the background.

The shadow lift processing has created an artifact with darkening on the chimney top though, which I would get rid of pronto as I hate that sort of thing.

Lovely shot - congrats.
