I've been to the Goths Festival at Whitby several times with other members of this forum and have also photographed some stunning girls there. I regret I've yet to meet this Emma B, she is up there with the best of them. Great pics.

Would love to know how to take stunning portraits like that, Mike.
Please keep it simple!

surprisingly easy to be honest - no magic, no particular technique.
main thing I always try to do is ensure I focus on the eyes.
Try get the exposure as correct as I can in camera and well that's it really.
The camera , lens and subject do the rest
Thanks for the kind feed back

I also keep post processing to a minimal - I like things to look natural and as I say try and get as much right in camera.
I shoot RAW and then boost vibrance and saturation to around +11
I tick lens correction and select the lens if needed
and I now manually slide colour temp to a level that I like the look of - used to play around with preset white balance options but one day tried just manually moving it and found I preferred this as none of the preset ones pleased me.
To be honest I'm still a real noob on portraiture/people shots:
I have two whitby goth events
one big steampunk event
one small steampunk event
a couple of war re-enactment/1940's weekends
that is pretty much the full extent of my people shooting.
Before I started doing it I didn't think shooting people would interest me but have found that it does

Looking back my response could be interpretied as arrogant so in colder light of day/on reflection I think my reply would be more:
Very kind and overly generous of you I feel Jean-claude, I would not have thought it stunning. I am very happy with it mind.
all the books etc major on how imnportant it is to get the eyes pin sharp.

Thank you, Mike, for your helpful response.
I used the adjective 'stunning' from the perspective of an inexperienced and somewhat technologically-challenged person who does not shoot raw (not in a rush to do so!) and finding photography a rather steep learning curve.
As far as I am concerned, you should, indeed, be very pleased with it, regardless of your level of expertise.
Anyhow, which camera and lens did you use as a matter of interest? Was it handheld or 'tripodded' ?
